In the early hours of Friday, gunshots rang out outside the home of Bollywood actress Disha Patani in Bareilly’s Civil Lines area, sparking alarm and prompting a full law enforcement response. The incident appears linked to remarks allegedly made by her sister, Khushboo Patani, about two religious figures—Sant Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Maharaj—which some have deemed disrespectful.

According to police, two men riding a motorcycle carried out the firing. Witnesses and shell casings indicate between two and seven rounds were discharged. No one was injured in the assault. At the time, Khushboo, their father Jagdish Patani (a former Deputy Superintendent of Police), and mother Padma Patani were at the house. Disha herself was in Mumbai.

Soon after, a post on social media from an account claiming ties to the Goldy Brar gang—and specifically invoking the roster of Rohit Godara and others—asserted responsibility. The message described the incident as retaliation for what it called insults toward sacred figures and warned that future offenses would bring more severe consequences. It also appeared to target the broader film community, suggesting this was not just a one-family matter.

Law enforcement agencies have recovered two spent cartridges from the property and launched an investigation led by the Crime Branch. Security measures around the Patani residence have been stepped up. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage, tracing leads, and attempting to identify the assailants. Senior officials have confirmed that the case has been registered formally, and multiple teams have been deployed to uncover the motive and motive behind the attack.

Jagdish Patani has criticized how social media amplified the controversy, saying his daughter’s remarks were misrepresented by online platforms. He defended Khushboo, insisting her comments were directed toward one person and not the religious establishment as a whole.

In response to the shooting, Bareilly’s police are on high alert. Further protective measures for the Patani family are in motion as investigations continue. The case highlights concerns over incitement, online speech, safety of public figures, and the speed with which threats escalate from social media to action.

The situation remains under investigation, and authorities are aiming to apprehend the individuals responsible as swiftly as possible.
