Xiaomi has officially launched its new 17 series, comprising three models: Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. The line is built to take on Apple’s iPhone 17 series — in battery size, features, and styling.

Key Hardware Highlights

  • All three models are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
  • Display specs for the standard and Pro models: 6.3-inch LTPO OLED panels with 1-120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of around 3,500 nits. The Pro Max ups the size to 6.9 inches.
  • Memory and storage options go up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage on higher variants.

Battery and Charging

  • Xiaomi 17 (standard) packs a 7,000 mAh battery — bigger than either of the Pro versions — with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
  • 17 Pro comes with a 6,300 mAh battery; Pro Max pushes it further to 7,500 mAh.
  • All support reverse charging around 22.5W.
  • Xiaomi also emphasised battery health with its Surge G2 management chip.

Rear Display Innovation

  • A standout feature in the Pro and Pro Max: a secondary screen on the rear near the camera module — about 2.7-inch on the Pro and 2.9-inch on the Pro Max.
  • This rear display is not just for show. It supports widgets, music controls, notifications, and can even be used as a viewfinder for selfies using the main rear cameras.
  • The rear screen helps distinguish the new series from the iPhone 17-style visible camera plateau design, adding utility in addition to design flair.

Cameras and Other Features

  • All models use a three-camera rear setup: 50MP main sensor, 50MP ultrawide, plus a telephoto lens. The Pro versions include a 5x optical zoom.
  • Leaps in low-light photography via larger sensors and wider apertures, especially on the Pro Max.
  • Built with IP68 water and dust resistance, with deeper underwater resistance in Pro Max (up to ~6 metres).
  • Software: HyperOS 3, built atop Android 16, with enhanced charging safety and reverse charging features.

Pricing & Availability

  • Prices in China begin at ¥4,499 for the standard Xiaomi 17, about $630, rising to about ¥5,999 (~$840) for the Pro Max.
  • Preorders in China are underway, with the official release there set for September 27, 2025.
  • Global launch expected in spring 2026, though Indian pricing and exact launch date are not confirmed yet.

Xiaomi is clearly positioning this 17 series as a serious competitor to Apple’s iPhone 17 line, especially with bigger batteries and novel features like the rear screen. Whether that translates into consumer preference will depend on software polish, camera performance in real world use, and how Xiaomi handles price and aftersales globally.
