Apple Watch users seeking a minimalist experience can customize their device to display only the watch face, eliminating distractions from auto-launching apps and Live Activities. Here’s how to streamline your Apple Watch settings:
1. Disable Auto-Launch for Live Activities
Live Activities provide real-time updates, such as sports scores or food delivery progress, directly on your watch face. To prevent these from automatically appearing:
- Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
- Navigate to General > Auto-Launch.
- Select Live Activities and toggle off Auto-Launch.
This action stops Live Activities from replacing your watch face but allows you to access them manually by swiping up or using the Smart Stack.
2. Manage Media App Behavior
Media apps like Music or Podcasts can automatically open when playback starts. To control this:
- In the Auto-Launch settings, find Media Apps.
- Toggle off Auto-Launch to prevent these apps from opening automatically.
Alternatively, you can disable Live Activities for media apps entirely if you prefer not to see them on your watch face.
3. Customize App Launch Settings
For individual apps that you don’t want to auto-launch:
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Go to My Watch > Smart Stack > Live Activities.
- Scroll to find the app and toggle off Auto-Launch or disable Live Activities for that app.
4. Adjust Return to Clock Settings
To ensure apps don’t remain open longer than desired:
- On your iPhone, open the Watch app.
- Navigate to General > Return to Clock.
- Set it to Always to return to the watch face immediately after using an app.
By configuring these settings, you can maintain a clean and focused watch face, enhancing your Apple Watch experience.
