Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Himachal Pradesh to personally assess the devastation caused by torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides. Touching down in Kangra, he conducted an aerial survey over hard-hit districts like Mandi and Kullu before leading a high-level review meeting with state officials and disaster-response teams.
Moved by the situation, he announced a substantial ₹1,500 crore relief package for the flood- and rain-affected areas. The plan includes:
- Ex gratia payments of ₹2 lakh to families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
- Immediate release of central assistance, including the second instalment of SDRF and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi funds.
- Accelerated relief via PM Awas Yojana, with geotagging for damaged homes to expedite aid delivery.
- Support under PMNRF, including livestock mini-kits for rural households.
- Infrastructure restoration, including highways, water-harvesting recharge structures, and educational support under Samagra Shiksha.
During his visit, PM Modi met affected families, expressing condolences and empathizing with their hardships. He also commended NDRF, SDRF, and Aapda Mitra teams for their tireless rescue and restoration efforts.
The state has suffered severe losses—over ₹4,500 crore—with more than 370 lives lost and 41 still missing. The deluge triggered 136 landslides, 95 flash floods, and 45 cloudbursts, causing widespread destruction to roads, bridges, infrastructure, and private property. Currently, 615 roads remain blocked, along with 1,748 dysfunctional electricity transformers and 461 disrupted water-supply schemes.
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed that the central government stands firm with Himachal Pradesh during this critical time and pledged further assistance based on inter-ministerial assessments underway.
