Apple has officially launched its iPhone 17 series, which includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. All models now start with 256GB of storage, and pre-orders in India began on September 12, with official sales starting on September 19.

The price comparison across key markets reveals a significant premium for Indian buyers. The iPhone 17 starts at ₹82,900 in India, compared with $799 in the US and approximately ₹76,800 in Dubai. The iPhone Air is priced at ₹1,19,900 in India, versus $999 in the US and around ₹97,000 in Dubai. The Pro and Pro Max models are priced at ₹1,34,900 and ₹1,49,900 in India, while the same models cost $1,099 and $1,199 in the US, and roughly ₹1,06,200 and ₹1,15,200 in Dubai.

Industry analysts attribute the higher Indian prices to several factors, including import duties, Goods and Services Tax (GST), and other regulatory costs that are built into the final retail price. Currency conversion and Apple’s global pricing strategy also play a role, making the phones cheaper in the US and Dubai even after adjusting for exchange rates.

Some buyers consider purchasing the devices abroad to save money. In Dubai, for example, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is priced significantly lower than in India, which could result in net savings even after factoring in travel expenses. However, experts advise caution, as warranty coverage and service availability may vary for international purchases.

Other considerations for buyers include network compatibility and device specifications. Certain international models may rely solely on eSIM technology rather than physical SIM cards, which could affect users who prefer a traditional SIM slot.

Despite the premium, Apple continues to attract Indian consumers with the iPhone 17 series’ upgraded features, including enhanced cameras, faster processors, and improved displays. Analysts suggest that while the higher price may be a hurdle, the combination of brand appeal and technological advancements ensures continued demand.

As the devices reach stores and customers begin using them, the focus will likely be on how buyers weigh the benefits against the higher cost in India compared with other major markets.
