Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, has kicked off the festive season with record-breaking sales. The company delivered more than 1.65 lakh vehicles in just the first eight days of festivities, marking its strongest start to the season in the last decade.

The surge in deliveries comes on the back of reduced GST rates and festive offers launched from September 22, which helped push sales momentum. The company expects festive season sales to touch nearly 2 lakh units before the celebrations conclude.

Maruti Suzuki’s confirmed bookings have already crossed 3.5 lakh units, with nearly 2.5 lakh pending deliveries still in the pipeline — signaling unprecedented demand across all segments.

Despite this robust festive demand, the automaker’s September domestic dispatches stood at 1,35,711 units, reflecting an 8.3% year-on-year decline. The company clarified that this dip was due to logistics constraints, especially extended trailer turnaround times in southern states, rather than weak demand. Deliveries are expected to normalize by October 10.

Among the key contributors to Maruti’s order book is the newly launched Victoris LXI CNG, which alone has garnered more than 25,000 bookings, creating a waiting period of nearly ten weeks. The popular Grand Vitara SUV has also sustained momentum, drawing over 500 bookings per day during the festive window.

SUVs as a category witnessed remarkable growth, with September sales climbing 32% compared to the April–August average, totaling 1,32,820 units. Small cars too made a comeback, with bookings rising 50% year-on-year in metro cities, driven by lower prices.

On the exports front, Maruti Suzuki reported a 52.2% jump in September, shipping 42,204 units overseas. A significant portion of this growth was led by electric vehicles, with 6,068 units exported from the Gujarat plant between August and September as production of the upcoming e-Vitara commenced.

So far in FY2025, Maruti Suzuki has dispatched 2.7 lakh vehicles overseas, keeping it on track to achieve its ambitious 4 lakh export target. South Asia continues to be a growth driver, with a record 1,120 units exported in September alone.
