Minecraft players can now explore a shiny new era with the release of The Copper Age update, which introduces a host of features centered around the versatile metal, copper. Mojang Studios officially launched the update following months of beta testing, accompanied by a trailer highlighting its major additions.
As the name suggests, copper now plays a central role in crafting. Players can use mined copper ores to create weapons, tools, armor, and even chests, expanding copper’s utility beyond decorative blocks and lightning rods. In addition, items such as copper torches, lanterns, chains, and bars can now be crafted, allowing players to integrate the metal into more aspects of gameplay.
A standout feature of this update is the copper golem, a new friendly mob. By placing a carved pumpkin or jack-o’-lantern atop a copper block, players can summon the golem, which helps organize items by transferring them from one chest to another in stacks of the same type. Notably, the copper golem cannot interact with Ender Chests, preserving the game’s balance.
The update also introduces a shelf block, crafted using six stripped logs of the same wood type. This vertical block can be used to display items or carry them on the go. When powered with redstone, the shelf becomes functional: interacting with it swaps the three items on the shelf with the three rightmost items in the player’s hotbar. Players can connect multiple shelves and power them simultaneously, allowing a complete hotbar swap—a major convenience for inventory management during complex tasks.
Mojang Studios emphasized that these features not only expand copper’s role in Minecraft but also enhance player creativity and efficiency. The Copper Age update is available now via the Minecraft Launcher or by updating the game to the latest version.
With copper tools, golems, and smart shelves, this update offers both practical gameplay enhancements and fun new ways to interact with the Minecraft world, making it one of the most anticipated updates of 2025.
